Losing Weight with ACV

 Daily users of Apple Cider Vinegar to control blood sugar and as part of a healthier lifestyle have discovered an amazing side effect: Weight Loss.

  A little about my weight: I'm female, 23, and in decent shape. I am 5'7'' and at the time weighed in at about 160. I have never been obese but am VERY curvy and had a spare tire I wasn't proud of. I was pretty active, but a total slouch at an exercise routine (usually I just walk places, or bike)

   Either way, I was a teacher, and I showed my friend at work this site. We went on the ACV together. We first tried the 2 teaspoons in 16 oz cold water (I drink NOTHING but water!!! ) but found it to be a little too gross.
 Since we're both fans of tea, we tried around 2 teaspoons in 8oz, with a bit of honey, served warm. Delicious!

 One of my favorite stories is the "candy" story I like to tell skeptics of ACV. I am a HUGE fan of candy and eat it waaaay too much.
 During my "slim down for Sweden" I used to eat my favorite candy (won't mention the name but it's our favorite peanut butter mixed with chocolate cup! ) all the time. I had a teacher friend who would give me this treat in exchange for watching her class--I could never turn them down.
 Well, one morning I hadn't eaten breakfast yet (while on the ACV breakfast was always something healthy; fruit or an egg, etc) this morning I didn't eat anything but was sipping my usual cup of ACV.
 When the friend brought me my chocolate and peanut butter cup, I gobbled it down. And immediately felt barf. I couldn't believe it. After the "flushing" effect of the ACV, the sugars, the fats, the oils... Everything in that candy suddenly had a whole new taste.

  ACV is amazing for awakening your senses to what you put in your body. I usually ate both "cups" in less than a second, but I found myself unable to finish the first one, and gave the second one to one of the kids in class. By the time Sweden hit, I had lost 20 pounds and looked SEXY!!!

  I wrote this testimonial to re-motivate myself (slacked off this year on ACV) and to hopefully motivate others. This stuff really does work! And you don't even have to be patient to see results, just give it like a week and you'll feel clothes fitting better.
 Oh, and I am an extremist and overdo EVERYTHING, so I've since doubled the amount of ACV I use. Sometimes I pour a nice tall glass of OJ and put about 2 tablespoons in that. The acid of the OJ completely obliterates the taste of ACV. And boy, the combo REALLY gives you an energy jolt in the morning.

mixing 2 tablespoons ACV with mother in 8 oz of lukewarm water and sipping this through the day in between meals.
It helps you stay/feel full so you eat less during meals and hence lose weight.
It also is very good for your gut with bacteria, etc so it is beneficial in losing weight.

 Additionally, I stopped eating rice, potatoes and friend foods. Stuck mainly to veggies and lean protein with occasional piece of fruit twice weekly.
You must change your eating habits to lose weight with ACV and incorporate some form of walking 45 mins daily to get the body moving."

   "This is in reply to "Ank" from Virginia regarding ACV & weight loss. As with any new supplement, the results will vary from individual to individual. In the case of ACV it is a slow process that changes your metabolism which encourages weight loss.
 Typically one would expect to yield results in 3 - 6 months for weight loss. It is the long term benefits that you should desire by using ACV, you know that stuff you dont actually see.
 If you are looking for a quick 7 - 10lb drop then ACV is probably not your best choice. Best of luck to you."

If you do that, it will work, but most people take a couple of tablespoons at a time, 2x a day. After prolonged exposure, your teeth and throat might not like it.
   If you put 2 tablespoons of ACV in the bottom of a glass, and add 1/2 of a TEAspoon of baking soda to it.... And let it sit until it stops foaming, then add water (about 8 - 10oz) and a splash of Orange Juice or Apple Juice, (or any type of juice - about 2 oz) I swear you will not even notice the ACV!
 Just give it a try.... Oj is best for masking the taste in my opinion.
 It is really worth the effort. I don't even really measure anymore, I just dump this and that and all good. Been taking it for about a year, and loving it.

    Candy from Manhattan, Ks replies: "I could not handle it in water either it made me want to vomit. I started taking straight shots of it until I read about someone adding it to juice.
  I will add 2tbls to about 16oz of grapefruit or orange juice(only juices I like) & you can't even taste it. My husband drinks it in Apple so I'm assuming any juice of your choice would work.
 Make sure you use a straw to get past the teeth as it does break down enamel. Hope this helps! "

Fountain of Youth series: Superfoods

What Supplements Should I be taking to slow aging? 

  This has recently become one of the most common questions to show up in my email, and it's a valid one indeed.  With all the constant flip-flopping by medical researchers, and the heavy marketing by supplement retailers, along with the dozens of new products on the shelves every month, all screaming:  "Take This If You Want To Live!"...
  It's nearly impossible for us to browse the growing inventory of vitamins and such at the local pharmacy or superstore and make a valid and conscientious choice.

   So, what are the best anti-aging supplements?
   There are many, such as CoQ10, that have a tremendous amount of clinical evidence backing up their use as anti-aging supplements. However, I'm not a fan of taking supplements in their isolated form.
 I'd rather get these compounds and phytonutrients straight from nature, in whole food forms. So, when it comes to getting these anti-aging compounds into your body, the best source is to turn to these whole foods as they are found in nature: Superfoods.

  I frequently mention superfoods in these writings, and there's a good reason for it. They contain an vast number of health-enhancing phytonutrients.
 Today's scientists and doctors don't even have a clue as to how many phytonutrients might be present in a superfood like chlorella or spirulina, much less having a grasp on how those phytonutrients impact the human body.
 But the point is, you don't need to have an ingredients list of what is in a superfood in order to benefit from it. Your body knows what to do with it once you ingest it. If you trust your body and the wisdom of nature -- and recognize the nutritional benefits of consuming high-density food sources -- you will gain the benefits, regardless of your level of understanding of their nutritional composition.

  The very best superfoods to consume in terms of longevity are chlorella, spirulina, sea vegetables (such as seaweed and blue-green algae), broccoli sprouts (or any sprouts, for that matter), quinoa, and soy products like tofu or soymilk.

 Taken together, these products provide tens of thousands of compounds that are beneficial to human health. Perhaps in another 100 years, these compounds will be identified, studied and proven to be extremely helpful to human health, but in the meantime, they remain mystery compounds that are outside the understanding of modern medical researchers.
But there's something interesting in all this: these are the superfoods that I recommend people eat anyway, regardless of whether they're interested in longevity or pursuing the fountain of youth.

  In other words, there's really nothing special you need to do to pursue an anti-aging program that you aren't already pursuing just by being healthy in the first place.
 A healthy human individual is automatically on an anti-aging program, which is why they live longer. Sort of makes sense, doesn't it?

 Conversely, most Americans and people in other so-called civilized nations are actually pursuing an accelerated aging program.
  If you want to accelerate your aging process, and shorten your life, the way to do that is to do what most Americans are doing already: avoid physical exercise, commit a major portion of your diet to fast foods and junk foods, consume large quantities of white flour and refined white sugar, eat brand-name groceries sold in beautiful boxes and made with dirt-cheap ingredients that lack any nutritional content whatsoever, and of course, avoid supplementing with superfoods and other nutritional supplements.

  It can also be claimed and backed up that the consumption of prescription drugs is an aging acceleration strategy as well. Prescription drugs, due to their toxicity, cause premature aging of the liver, the pancreas, the kidneys, and other important organs, which eventually leads to the premature death of people taking those drugs.
 So, when it comes to anti-aging strategies, avoiding prescription drugs certainly belongs near the very top of the list.

  There's one more important consideration here when it comes to anti-aging strategies, and that's strength training. Given all of the documented benefits of human growth hormone -- and there are many -- it's no surprise that people are attempting to get more human growth hormone into their bodies through injections.
 However, you don't necessarily need injections to boost your levels of HGH. One of the best ways to boost your levels is to engage in strength training, and the larger your muscles you train, the more HGH your body produces.

  For example, if you strength train your gluts and hamstrings by practicing some squats, your body, over the next 24 to 48 hours, will produce much higher levels of HGH naturally. And HGH is only one of the chemicals your body produces in response to strength training.
  It could be said that for every hour you work out, your body manufactures $10,000 worth of beneficial chemical compounds -- that is, it would cost $10,000 if you had to have them manufactured somewhere else and injected into your body.

  But by strength training, your body manufactures these on its own -- no needles required, no visits to the anti-aging clinic, and of course, no risk of having some artificial substance injected into your bloodstream. You just get the anti-aging medicine nature intends -- straight from your body.

  And that's my last bit of advice when it comes to longevity: engage in regular strength training. Strength training will boost your bone mass density, it will enhance your mood and brain function, it will increase the oxygenation of organs and tissues throughout your body, and, of course, it will reduce your body fat and increase your lean body mass.

  These are precisely the same benefits that are being attributed to HGH injections, and yet you can achieve all of these simply by engaging in regular strength training. That's not to say that HGH injections don't work -- I'm actually a supporter of anti-aging medicine, but I believe that most people would do better by pursuing anti-aging lifestyle changes on their own before looking to clinics or other anti-aging companies to solve their aging problems for them.

Fountain of youth series: Think Purple to Reverse Aging!


  Purple fruits and vegetables, including acai and blueberries, contain important nutrients that have shown many health benefits including anti-aging. These purple antioxidants, called anthocyanins, have been shown to protect the heart and vision, promote mental focus, and prevent oxidative stress.
  Resveratrol is another fat-soluble compound found in some purple foods, such as grapes, red wine, purple grape juice, peanuts, and some berries.
 Research has indicated that purple foods may provide a cure for cancer.

 Resveratrol has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in animals. It has also increased longevity in animals, such as worms, fruit flies, fish, and mice, but it is not known if this same effect will transfer to humans.

  Purple fruits and vegetables come in a variety of flavors. The list of purple foods includes eggplant, purple carrots, purple cabbage, beets, blueberries, blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries, black currants, plums, elderberries, bilberries, figs, raisins, and pomegranates.
 The well-advertised acai* berries, and Goji berries are also members of the purple family of foods. The acai berry grows on a palm tree in Central and South America. Also known as Euterpe oleracea, it is related to both blueberries and cranberries.

  Blueberries contain a large amount of antioxidants. Research has shown that eating blueberries can help you lose weight by reducing food cravings. In the study, those who consumed an extract of blueberries reduced their food intake by eight percent.
  Blueberries have also been shown to reduce cholesterol.
 Along with cranberries, blueberries help to prevent urinary tract infections because of a nutrient they contain called proanthocyanidin, which lines the urinary tract and prevents bacteria from sticking. Tests have also shown that blueberry consumption slows age-related memory loss.

 Purple cabbage contains 36 different types of antioxidants, including the health-giving anthocyanins. There is evidence to suggest that purple cabbage helps build a healthy brain and a healthy heart and acts as a fat burner.

Figs have been used since ancient times as a sweetener. Shown in paintings on Greek vases, this purple food is also full of nutrients, including calcium, magnesium and fiber. The Japanese use figs to reduce high blood pressure and high blood sugar.

Eating berries may activate the brain's natural housekeeper for healthy aging

  
Many berries, including blueberries, could help protect the brain against aging.
  BOSTON, Aug. 23, 2010 — Scientists today reported the first evidence that eating blueberries, strawberries, and acai berries may help the aging brain stay healthy in a crucial but previously unrecognized way.
 Their study, presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS), concluded that berries, and possibly walnuts, activate the brain's natural "housekeeper" mechanism, which cleans up and recycles toxic proteins linked to age-related memory loss and other mental decline.

  Shibu Poulose, Ph.D., who presented the report, said previous research suggested that one factor involved in aging is a steady decline in the body's ability to protect itself against inflammation and oxidative damage.
 This leaves people vulnerable to degenerative brain diseases, heart disease, cancer, and other age-related disorders.

  "The good news is that natural compounds called polyphenolics found in fruits, vegetables and nuts have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect that may protect against age-associated decline," said Poulose, who is with the U. S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in Boston.
 Poulose did the research with James Joseph, Ph.D., who died June 1. Joseph, who headed the laboratory, pioneered research on the role of antioxidants in fruits and nuts in preventing age-related cognitive decline.
 Their past studies, for instance, showed that old laboratory rats fed for two months on diets containing 2 percent high-antioxidant strawberry, blueberry, or blackberry extract showed a reversal of age-related deficits in nerve function and behavior that involves learning and remembering.

 In the new research, Poulose and Joseph focused on another reason why nerve function declines with aging. It involves a reduction in the brain's natural house-cleaning process. Cells called microglia are the housekeepers. In a process called autophagy, they remove and recycle biochemical debris that otherwise would interfere with brain function.

 "But in aging, microglia fail to do their work, and debris builds up," Poulose explained. "In addition, the microglia become over-activated and actually begin to damage healthy cells in the brain. Our research suggests that the polyphenolics in berries have a rescuing effect. They seem to restore the normal housekeeping function. These findings are the first to show these effects of berries."

 The findings emerged from research in which Joseph and Poulose have tried to detail factors involved in the aging brain's loss of normal housekeeping activity. Using cultures of mouse brain cells, they found that extracts of berries inhibited the action of a protein that shuts down the autophagy process.

 Poulose said the study provides further evidence to eat foods rich in polyphenolics. Although berries and walnuts are rich sources, many other fruits and vegetables contain these chemicals ― especially those with deep red, orange, or blue colors. Those colors come from pigments termed anthocyanins that are good antioxidants. He emphasized the importance of consuming the whole fruit, which contains the full range of hundreds of healthful chemicals. Frozen berries, which are available year round, also are excellent sources of polyphenolics, he added.

Fountain of Youth Series: Rhodiola, the Anti-Aging Herb

     RHODIOLA Herbal formulation

  Rhodiola is a powerful anti-aging and anti-stress formula that is very popular in Russia. It is finally gaining momentum in Europe and North America. In Russia, Rhodiola is commonly given to astronauts, soldiers, athletes and aging political leaders!

  It reportedly helps with fatigue and mental performance. Athletes take it to improve endurance & performance as it aids in the restoration of strength with increased physical loads.
  We know people taking Rhodiola who are severely sleep-deprived due to odd working hours or stress. Rather than walking zombies, they are alert and well functioning. The difference is quite amazing apparently.

  WARNINGS:  Rhodiola can cause anxiety and the "jitters".  Be cautious about buying a brand that also contains caffeine.

  DOSAGE:
   The typical amounts of Rhodiola are 200 - 600 mg per day of a Rhodiola rosea extract standardized to contain 2-3% rosavins and 0.8-1% salidroside. Rhodiola is taken with water before meals or at meals.

  You should buy only Rhodiola of Russian origin with key active components of Rosavin, Rosarin and Rosin.
 Be careful -- in the USA, Rhodiola rosea formulas sold as "Tibetan" Rhodiola or Chinese Rhodiola contain no active components.
 These formulas lack the key ingredient Rosavins while they are high in Salidroside. Supposedly, only Rhodiola from West and North Siberia contains the critical components of Rosavin, Rosarin and Salidroside.

 Interestingly, it has been noted that Rhodiola has a stimulating effect at lower amounts and a sedating effect at higher amounts. A high dose of Rhodiola extract is considered to be daily intakes of 1,500 - 2,000 mg and above.

Easy Natural Sore Throat Cure -pt2

Cayenne Pepper (part 2)
  Voted most popular because it is the most effective of the natural cures for a sore throat, and the subject of the last post.

   This second page is our top response to the posting.

   Molly from Fort Lauderdale, Fl replies: "I am a singer, and after a four hour rehearsal last night I woke at 1:30 in the morning with an excruciatingly sore throat. It felt like there was broken glass in there, and I could barely swallow my own saliva. In desperation (because I have another rehearsal tonight! ), I found this site and ran down to the kitchen to try it.
 After gargling a cup of warm water with 1 tsp. Cayenne and 1/2 tsp. Sea salt, I felt so much better I went back to sleep. When I woke up a few hours later, my sore throat was 85% gone so I gargled again, and it's pretty much entirely gone now. I'm going to gargle with cayenne water after every strenuous rehearsal from now on! Thanks so much!"


  Cecilia from Atlanta, Georgia writes: "In order to avoid severe coughing while gargling with cayenne pepper (red pepper) in tempered water you need to breath deeply, hold your breath, take a sip of cayenne pepper, gargle, spit the mix and breath normal.
Gargling this way you avoid breathing through your mouth when you are sipping the mix and the dry cayenne powder doesn't get into your through.
 Also, when the throat and larynx are irritated it is better not to swallow a lot of the mix so just swallow what is left in your spit after spitting the mix. It has worked wonderfully for me!"

   
  Giancarlo from Sunny Isles Beach, Fl replies: "yes there is a trick for the fire not to come out of your nose and ears, literately!
  At first, I tried gargling, and it exploded out of my nose and the cayenne vapor was coming out of my eyes burning, spit it right away. Then I realized that it was way deeper than that, so I was gonna have to drink it.
 I did a few rounds of practice with water alone first. Hold your nose and swallow water without breathing. Don't let the air come out from your ears either. It's all connected in there.
 I put some honey on the mix, and held my nose, and swallowed without letting air out in any direction, but down my throat. It worked, I didn't explode at all.
Now I can do it tomorrow. If you even let a little air out... it's a bomb."

   Debbi from Delta, CO replies: "I tried the 3 tbsps of honey with 3 tbsps of lime juice, since I didn't have lemon juice on hand. I generously sprinkled cayenne pepper and added a few drops of water. Heated it 20-30 seconds and drank. I tasted pretty good and I could immediately tell that in was "working" on the sore areas of my throat.
  I immediately got my voice back and am very hopeful that this will give me relief throughout the course of this sore throat. I will repeat as necessary until the sore throat is gone.
 I speculate that it doesn't cure the sore throat, but numbs it. But that is good enough for me. With the symptoms reduced, I can certainly wait this thing out!"

  Midlyfcrisis from East Tn, Tn, Usa replies: "The orange juice worked great! I used a straw, and drank about 1/3 cup mixed well with about 1/8 tsp of cayenne. I put the straw onto the middle of my tongue, and bypassed the tip.
 I barely had even a hot aftertaste. Within 5 minutes, my nose started running, and 10 minutes later, I can swallow w/o pain! Thanks so much!"

Easy Natural Sore Throat Cure #1

Sore throat season is here and time for the most popular Natural cure for a sore throat:

          Cayenne Pepper.

  ¼ tsp Cayenne pepper in a half-glass of room temperature water. The powdered form found in the grocer's spices section works fine.

  At the first sign of a sore throat, gargle this simple recipe twice a day.
If you get a late start (ran out of Cayenne and soothed it with lozenges for a day) then play 'catch-up' by gargling the CP & water mix twice in the first hour, then twice more through the course of the day.

 The pepper will sting the throat a bit, but if you can take it allow small bits to slide down the throat to add a coating during your rinse & spit routine.
  It won't hurt you. Cayenne is a natural cure for ulcers and so many other conditions, plus aids assimilation of nutrients and vitamins.
 You should already be using it in chicken, salads, soups, even certain sandwiches taste better with Cayenne Pepper. CP is a great spice, it assists your body's natural blood flow and helps to carry nutrients via the bloodstream into your body more quickly. Using it all the time will help in your general health.
 
 To quote a regular member:
"I have never seen a sore throat that won't succumb to it."

TIP: Show patience with the Cayenne!
Cayenne doesn't always work within the first hour or two. If you've had a sore throat for days, you will need to keep up the gargling for at least one day if not two. Your lingering sore throat will disappear.
 Most of the members who complain that Cayenne didn't work for them (about 18%) are reporting negative results after a very short period of time...a few within minutes!

Also, it doesn't matter if the burning is in your mouth, lips, face (from touching it with your hands after handling peppers) or hands, it works:
Put a little salt on the palm of your left hand, wet the tip of your right index finger in your mouth slightly and dip it in the salt and place it UNDER your tongue (sublingual) in the tender area on your jaw and not ON the underside of the tongue. Relief is very quick, easy to do, you can do it anywhere (like a restaurant) and works for everyone plus you can find salt everywhere."

   Too many members have written (repeatedly) to ask that their own "tricks" be pushed to the top of the Natural Cures list for sore throats, when in truth they are blurring the clear difference between a cure and temporary relief.
 We are all aware of the relief you feel by sucking on crushed ice, or by sipping granny's tea with lemon, or granpa's whiskey-honey-lemon mixture...but again, these are not repairing the irritation or killing the infections that are at the root of the sore throat...they are simply making it easier to live with, and are no more a cure than a cherry cough-drop.

Raw Foods Lecture - Notes 


  Brian Clement, Director of Hippocrates Health Institute, located in West Palm Beach, Florida, gave a talk on Saturday April 27, 1996 at the San Francisco Whole Life Expo. The talk was titled "Anti-Oxidants in Whole Living Foods"; however it was really a more general talk on living foods lifestyles.

 Brian speaks quickly, and my notes contain only a portion of his excellent talk. If you have the chance to her him speak, it is certainly worthwhile! There was little redundancy with his talk last year, so I am typing up my notes so they are available to others. Also, the notes are given here without any editorial notes/comments from me.  Brian began in his usual style - by asking the group to sing along with him. He then discussed the early days of Hippocrates, with Viktoras and Dr. Ann. Although Hippocrates is best known for helping critically ill people regain their health through diet and lifestyle, the current customer base is approx. 50% healthy people who want to stay healthy, and live better quality lives.

 Brian has a new book in progress; the topic is increasing personal energy levels; also a new recipe book is in progress.
Brian defined living foods, (for those in audience who didn't know), as foods that are vegetarian and raw. Each food has a different energy vibration level. Hippocrates is working on developing ways to match an individual`s energy needs with the energy levels of foods. In a new book to be published in June, "Living Food", there are (color) Kirlian photos of food, showing their energy levels. A piece of raw romaine lettuce has a small aura, 0.5 inches around it, of green color - a moderate quality living food. The same lettuce, when cooked, has no aura = no energy. Raw sunflower greens, and wheatgrass, have large auras, 2 feet around them, and the aura has the colors gold, white, and purple. The same items, after being cooked, have no aura. Raw meat shows brown energy, going in; cooked meat has a black aura - it sucks energy from you. This shows that you don't have to eat meat for it to drain your energy!
   
  Generation X is sicker per-capita, than people 65+ years of age. The 65+ group has more life threatening disease, but generation X has more general disease - things like AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc. Brian then discussed the rise of new diseases; he said that AIDS might mutate into an air-borne disease at some time in the future.

  Today people want to go beyond health, to find happiness. If you are ill, you should be on a 100% raw food diet, for 1.5+ years. Approx. 97% of people who go on the Hippocrates diet get well within 1.5 years, 3% need longer. Hippocrates has blood profiles done, at beginning and end of their stay at Hippocrates, for all visitors. They are building a data base for study.

  If you are well, you can eat 75% by weight raw foods, mostly greens and sprouts, and a maximum of 25% *clean* cooked foods (steamed veggies, pasta). You should consume, twice daily, two green drinks (12 ounces); the drink should be 50% green veggies (NO carrot juice - too much sugar), and 50% sprouts. Thus at a meal, you can drink 16 oz. green drink, eat 0.5 lb. salad, and then you can eat 0.5 lb. clean cooked food if you want; this gives 25% cooked by weight.

  There are lots of benefits from wheatgrass; similar benefits come from kamut grass, spelt, barley, rye; might get same benefits from lambsquarters, other bitter weeds such as dandelion greens. A recent Israeli study found certain anti-oxidants in wheatgrass that attack and kill cancer cells, while promoting red blood cells and hemoglobin. Wheatgrass and sunflower greens provide complete protein.
Vitamins are not important. Even on a junk food veggie diet, you will get all the vitamins you need. Minerals are important. You should consume sea veggies 3-5 days per week. If you don't like the taste, take them in tablet form. The most important element is oxygen, as you will quickly die without it. You get this from breathing; oxygen levels are down 50% from 100 years ago. Also, you stop breathing when under stress - and there is a lot of stress in modern life.

 You need enzymes! Enzymes give food the aura, the electrical field. Raw foods are charged, and can attract enzymes. (A Nobel Prize was awarded early this century for research that showed that the electrical charge attraction of enzymes enables digestion.) 

 Why do we age? Cells die every day but if you are healthy, you grow new cells. After 20, you are in trouble if you don't eat raw food. Aging = cells die and are not replaced. What you create in the body <=> your attitude, your faith (not necessarily religious faith). Recovery is first and foremost a spiritual process; the physical matters are secondary! 
 
 Fruit. Fruit is NOT the ideal diet. We learned this the hard way. We noticed that people with certain diseases - diabetes, candida, hormonal cancers, and others, did *not* get well when on a diet that was high in fruit. We had to abandon fruit, and it created political problems for us, as we foolishly recommended it for years.

  Modern fruit has 30 times the sugar level of its wild ancestors. This is because fruit is hybridized for sugar content; we are all addicted to sugar. The 2nd problem with fruit is the pancreas. 100 years ago, we consumed 2.5 pounds of sugar per year; now we consume 124 pounds per year. There is no difference between fructose from an orange, and from a sugar beet. California carrot juice is too high in sugar also; 1 quart has .5 cups of sugar in it.

 Get off fruit! If you are *very* healthy, both physically and emotionally, you can eat a maximum of 15% fruit. That means 1 apple juiced, with 1 cup water added, not 6 apples juiced to make 1 cup of pure juice.

 Rejuvelac. We used to call it rejuve-rot. It is not a Hippocrates invention, it is a traditional drink from the Baltic countries. We used it in the past because we thought it had lacto-bacteria. We paid for a study on rejuvelac; we naively thought the fermentation would always be good bacteria. The study found that this was not the case; 40% of the batches tested were good, 60% were bad. Also, you cannot tell by the smell if the bacteria are good or bad. Instead, you can use acidophilus supplements, and they can be taken as implants also.
Q: Are there any veggies you cannot eat raw? A: No. You should eat spinach raw. Don't eat raw rhubarb or white potatoes (hard to digest). All other veggies should be eaten raw, not cooked.
Q: What about meat? A: In cooked meat, the fat molecules burst and are carcinogenic. That is true for vegetable oil also, including olive oil. Meat is not a complete protein. There are 8 times the protein deficiencies among meat eaters compared to vegetarians.
Q: Are sunflower sprouts/greens toxic? A: No, that is complete nonsense. People eat sunflower greens and recover from serious diseases.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Secret Natural Cure for Colds!

Besides the obvious (cleansing wounds), did you know that it is probably the best remedy to dissolve ear wax? Yep, and it is used around the world to prevent the flu. Athletes also use hydrogen peroxide to build stamina. Additionally, we have received several emailed reports that hydrogen peroxide has cured melanoma, prostate and mesothelioma (asbestos) cancer.




HYDROGEN PEROXIDE'S HISTORY:   The pharmaceuticals are threatened by hydrogen peroxide cures.
 About 120 years ago (during the reign of Queen Victoria), people in India (a British colony then) found that Hydrogen peroxide added in small amounts to drinking water cured a variety of sickness especially colds, flu, cholera, malaria, etc.
  It threatened the British monopoly drug sales, so they issued fake news reports by hiring a reporter disguised as a doctor to put out the dis-information to the effect that taking hydrogen peroxide causes viral brain damage.
 It sounded believable, but the child who died of the hydrogen peroxide caused viral brain damage was non-existent.

  It worked and the people of India went back to buying British drugs, while suppressing India's own Ayurvedic medicine from any sales. It is amazing that Ayurvedic medicine actually survived under British threat for more than 200 years of occupation!
 It has happened during the Queen Victoria era, and now it is happening again. History repeats itself, only this time, we now have the internet, on which at least for now, the information is free. 
 No doubt, freedom of information is something we just have to always be vigilant and fight for.

 
  There are quite a few ways that our readers report taking hydrogen peroxide. Some folks put a few drops of food grade (35%) peroxide in water and drink it. 

 Others are big fans of 3% drugstore peroxide -- they bathe in it; splash it on their skin; add it to a sterilized nasal pump and inhale it through the mouth and into the lungs; or soak it in the ears for a few minutes to get rid of viruses. We'll leave it up to you to decide how you want to try it.

 Note: Regular bottles of 3% hydrogen peroxide (bought at any drugstore for under $1) is the type of peroxide most commonly referred to below from our readers for the ears.
 The only grade recommended for internal use is 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, which must be properly diluted down to 3% with water.

  This is reportedly a common practice in India and Germany...
During flu season, fill the cap of a bottle of hydrogen peroxide with the liquid, lay down on your side, and pour it into one ear. After a few seconds, the liquid will bubble. Lay with the peroxide fizzing for 5 or 10 minutes, then shake the peroxide out. Repeat on the other ear.
 This remedy is supposed to cures colds that are already in progress - causing the symptoms to begin to clear up within a few hours.
 Note: If the virus has been in your blood for some time, this will not work!

   H202 as an Acne Remedy:
  I tried hydrogen peroxide with the assumption that it was an antiseptic that would aid in killing bacteria, infection, etc. (essentially what pimples are when inflamed). It definitely works.
 As others recommended, soak a cotton ball and hold for several min. For spot treatment and to avoid overdrying & light eyebrows, I use a q-tip. I will do this 2-3x's a day.
 If you have already squeezed or picked, the peroxide will often cause drying, flaking, or scabbing on that pimple so I recommend using baby oil on that spot (overnight). For day, I recommend Eucerin since it heals very dry skin and is non-irritating.
 I never realized how much dirt is still on your face, even after you thought you washed it well. Witch Hazel is a great toner, after washing. This will remove all excess dirt without overdrying."

   H202 & ACV:
  Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "I've been using ACV plus baking soda and lemon/lime plus BS for over 4 years now on a regular basis. I use the lemon/lime remedy more often because it alkalizes better and seems to balance more internal parameters than the ACV remedy which is good for extra energy because of the malates created which are used in the Kreb's Cycle of cell respiration.

I also use just 1/4 to 1/2 tspn of Baking Soda on its own in a half glass of water if I need to top up on bicarbonates to alkalize my blood and intestines and I also use this remedy occasionally as an antacid -- always taken a half an hour after meals.

When I had Candida, I used mainly the lemon plus baking soda remedy -- 1/2 tspn plus a whole lemon in a half glass of water, three times a day. I did this to keep my blood and intestinal pH alkaline to help get rid of the candida. But now cured of candida, I take a maintenance dose of just 1/4 tspn twice a day about 3 times a week or whenever I feel I need it.

I also take HP internally. But I don't need to take this very often because there's nothing wrong with me..LOL. But I do take it, 6-10 drops 3% HP in a full glass of water for extra energy or a boost. I've been doing this for about a year now."

Going Green has a new definition

 
  It has now been a few years since my eyes were opened to the role that good nutrition plays in how our body functions, and 17 months since I headed down the mostly Raw food path. I can say with confidence that with most of the issues that plague our society, food is at the heart of it.
 The concept of putting more Raw and less processed foods in our body addresses a number of societal issues: our health, the health of our health care system, the health of our government, the health of our land, the reduction in trash which leads to a reduction in pollution., the reduction in crime as I believe that the SAD (Standard American Diet) effects behavior.
 
  Although I have found that for myself, consuming a mostly Raw food diet gives me amazing energy and health, the act of consuming just a green smoothie for someone on the SAD diet is also very powerful.
 Instead of preaching the benefits of a 100% Raw diet, which I do feel provides optimal health; I believe that just the addition of the green smoothie first thing in the morning to anyone’s day will have a huge positive effect.
 The green smoothie is so packed with nutrients and enzymes blended in a way that our body can absorb easily, that it feeds our body like it has never been fed before. At some point of the day, we need to feed our body some real, fresh, organic, raw fruits and greens, and before breakfast is the optimal time.

  When I take my program into the shelters, I promote the green smoothie to be available between 6-8am so that the residents drink it before they put anything else in their stomachs. This allows the body to fully absorb every ounce of this powerfully nutritious drink which also satisfies their hunger* and sometimes satisfies their appetite.
*Hunger is the body’s way of asking for nutrition, not just any food.
When the body is fed nutrition, it gets full, when the body is fed empty food; it is still hungry which is why people overeat.
  I am working on a pilot program for schools. I will provide the breakfast for the children consisting of 100% fruits and greens in the form of smoothies, whips and whole fruits. This will allow the children to:
  1. feed their bodies nutritiously
  2. Feed their minds so they can think
  3. Energize them so they can be calm, alert and focused in class.
When we feed the children nutritiously, it gives them the tools to be able to learn. Also, a side effect of the green smoothie and good nutrition in general is weight loss for those who are overweight.
 Childhood obesity is a major problem and this program addresses that issue directly.

  I challenge everyone to try adding the green smoothie to their morning routine for 7 days straight. You will feel energized and your body will thank you. Just the addition of this one drink first thing in the morning can make a difference for everyone. Please try it, and pass it forward.

Our Toxic Environment: How Safe Are We?

How safe are the thousands of chemicals we and our children encounter every day?

  They're in the toys children play with, in the food we eat, and in the air we breathe. Each year, about 27 trillion pounds of chemicals are produced in or imported into the United States, and pediatricians claim that precious little research is done regarding the effects the bulk of these compounds may have on a child's development.

  The primary law that regulates chemicals in the U.S.,the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, is outdated and has been called ineffective by the American Academy of Pediatrics' Council on Environmental Health, who are urging the government for more testing and evaluations of potentially toxic substances that children encounter in their daily life.

 Only five chemicals have been regulated under the act in the last thirty years, and the TSCA does not require any chemical manufacturer to conduct pre-market testing of it's product's effects on human health.

Oil Pulling 101: Natural Therapy or Simple Cure?

Oil Pulling Therapy

Effective Natural Detoxification, Stimulation of Elimination, Self-Help Cure and Prevention of Many Diseases, including Cancer..?

   The practice of oil pulling apparently is a time-honoured tradition in parts of the world.

  Oil pulling therapy simply consists in thoroughly sloshing certain types of commonly found oil in the mouth for up to 20 minutes (for details see Instructions: how oil pulling is done). This practice is said to draw toxins & destroy natural mouth germs while stimulating the body's eliminatory system and increasing metabolism, thus leading to improved health and the conquering of disease.
 
  In fact, thanks to this double action, oil pulling therapy is claimed (according to Dr. Karach MD) to have healed illnesses and complaints as diverse as bronchitis, tooth pain, diseased teeth, headaches & migraines, eczema, thrombosis, chronic sleeplessness, arthritis & related illnesses, diseases of stomach & intestines (such as ulcers, gastro-enteritis, peritonitis), kidney, liver, lung and heart disease, blood disorders (such as chronic blood diseases like leukemia), women’s diseases & hormonal disorders and diseases affecting the nervous system (such as encephalitis, meningitis, neuro-physiological paralysis).
 It is also said to prevent the growth of malignant tumors, to cut and heal them, to be a heart attack preventative, to cure diseases brought on by toxic drugs, and it is credited with the cure of diabetes.
 Dr. Karach himself claims to have cured his own chronic blood disease of 15 years standing by using the oil therapy, and that the same method healed an “acute arthrosis” (which had made him bed-ridden) within three days.*
 Added benefits reported concern the fastening of loose teeth, the healing of bleeding gums and the visible whitening of teeth.

  In other words, oil therapy is claimed (according to Dr. Karach MD) to be some kind of panacea of both curative and preventative power with the added bonus of potentially doubling the presently observed average human lifespan.
 Additionally, “in terminal diseases such as cancer, Aids and chronic infections, this treatment method has been shown to successfully replace all others. ... a wide variety of symptoms have unquestionably disappeared without any side effects. ... diseases which would normally be treated by an operation or by powerful or potent drugs, usually with significant side effects.”

 Interestingly, oil pulling is also part of the daily morning routine prescribed in eminent conventional and alternative cancer treatment researcher Lothar Hirneise’s new cancer treatment center in Germany.

  While it seems that noone so far has done any placebo-controlled double-blind studies on the possible or actual benefits of oil pulling for health**, so any healing reports so far published could be easily dismissed as simple anecdotes based on the powerful placebo effect, the simplicity, apparent harmlessness as well as inexpensiveness of application of this biological healing/detoxification method and the possible rewards concerning internal detoxification to be reaped make it seem advisable to at least give oil pulling a thorough try.
 Perhaps, as Dr. Karach claims, oil therapy is indeed able to help heal the human organism in its entirety, to effectively treat all types of diseases and “in some cases enabling one to avoid surgical intervention and the taking of medications that can have harmful side effects”.
* Oilpulling.org writes in another place that “Dr. Karach has successfully healed a chronic leukemia patient with 15 years of harsh treatment methods behind him.
 Acute arthritis in 1 patient who was totally bedridden was removed from his body in 3 days with no inflammation apparent.”
** Update July 2010: To date, apart from impressive successful scientific studies into oil pulling's dental health benefits carried out in Indian research facilities, there indeed seems to be no scientific research that has looked into oil pulling as a cure for disease or as a detoxification method (this may simply be another case of "follow the money", of course).

Which oils to use

 Recommended oils to use for oil pulling are sunflower and sesame oil, both of which have been found to be equally effective in healing diseases.
 Also mentioned are peanut oil and “distal oil”, the latter possibly being a mistranslation from the German Distelöl (safflower oil).
 Quote: “Other oils were not found to be as good/We have observed that any oil other than SUNFLOWER or SESAME may not be effective. Do not blame oil pulling by practicing with other oils.”
 Apparently, a normal refined sunflower oil as found in supermarkets has proved to be effective in numerous people. But “Our experience with thousands of people across the globe says USE COLD-PRESSED OIL as first choice, if it is not available use REFINED OIL.”
  Healing Cancer Naturally recommends to always, if possible, choose the best possible quality in foodstuffs, both in the interest of one’s own health and the environment.

Instructions: how oil pulling is done

 In the morning before breakfast (i.e. on an empty stomach), take one tablespoon into the mouth (don’t swallow it). Move the oil slowly around your mouth, as you would when rinsing your teeth. While keeping your mouth closed, slosh the fluid around your oral cavity, pulling it through your teeth, sucking it etc.
 Do this for fifteen to twenty minutes. “Chewing” in this manner draws a lot of saliva and gradually dilutes the oil which becomes thoroughly mixed with saliva in the process. 

 Swishing is said to activate the enzymes, with the enzymes drawing toxins out of the blood. As you continue this process, the oil-saliva mix gradually becomes more and more liquid and thin and acquires a whitish look (if the oil remains yellowish, it has not been pulled long enough).

Spitting and cleansing

 The watery oil/saliva mix is then spat out. It must not be swallowed, for the liquid has become toxic from poisons being drawn from the circulation through the mucous membranes of the mouth.
 After spitting the oil, the oral cavity must be thoroughly rinsed and washed with water a number of times.
 Cleanse your teeth with a toothbrush or use your fingers; also properly clean the sink, because the liquid expelled contains large amounts of bacteria and other harmful/toxic bodily waste (apparently, a microscopic review would reveal microbes in their first stage of development in this liquid). “Pulling Oil pulls out disease elements from the system (body) and restores health.”

When to do oil pulling - is there a best time to practice?

  Best time to do the oil pulling routine is said to be in the morning before breakfast (where it can easily be integrated into the rest of one’s morning routine).
 The ancient Ayurveda healing system advises to do oil pulling in the morning after brushing your teeth and cleaning your tongue and on an empty stomach.
 Similarly Dr Karach advises oil pulling before breakfast on an empty stomach (one hour after drinking water, tea, coffee or other liquids in the morning, but before breakfast. 

Recommended frequency of oil pulling

Oilpulling.org states that to enhance the claimed healing process, oil pulling can be repeated three times a day (always before meals on an empty stomach).

How long to do the oil pulling

Oilpulling.org advises to keep up the practice until one has recovered one’s original strength and freshness, enjoys good appetite and memory and regularly wakes up refreshed “without black circles under your eyes” after restful sleep.

When initial worsening of symptoms is observed

 Patients suffering from more than one disease can experience a worsening of their situation in the beginning. Dr. Karach - like other naturopaths - believes that an apparent worsening of one’s state of health is a propitious sign (often referred to as healing crisis) indicating that your disease is disappearing.
 This includes healing fever. He advises not to interrupt the treatment when one’s state gets worse. In fact he believes that by discontinuing the oil pulling, one also interrupts the healing activities stimulated by the oil pulling.

Claimed time requirements to achieve healing/cure

Oilpulling.org claims that oil pulling will speedily cure acute diseases in two to four days, while chronic diseases usually require more time, sometimes even one-year, and advises persistence in application.

Oil pulling caveats & precautions

(a) Don’t swallow the oil after completion of the process but spit it out. Do not worry, however, about any oil accidentally swallowed. It will simply be discarded through the normal elimination channels.
(b) If you are allergic to a particular brand of oil, change the brand or type of oil to a different one.
(c) One author (perhaps more) warns against oil pulling for people who carry amalgam fillings, claiming that even more mercury than “normal” will/could be released by this practice.

User experiences & results of oil pulling:
On diseases reportedly cured by oil pulling

In 1996, an Indian daily news paper (Andhra Jyoti) conducted a survey among its readers on the effects of oil pulling on various diseases. 1041 readers responded, 927 (89%) of which reported healing effects (curing one or more diseases). 114 or 11% did not report any disappearance of symptoms/illnesses. The chronic diseases reportedly cured were the following:
Polio, cancer, leprosy, polycystic kidney, neural fibroma, paralysis etc.: 72 cases
Diseases pertaining to female reproductive system: 21 cases
Piles: 27 cases
Diabetes: 56 cases
Heart disease and blood pressure: 74 cases
Arthritis and joint pains: 91 cases
Constipation: 110 cases
Digestive system: 155 cases
Skin problems such as pigmentation, itching, scars, black patches, eczema etc.: 171 cases
Allergy and respiratory problems of lungs such as asthma, bronchitis etc.: 191 cases
Physical pains and problems with neck & head area: 758 cases

Cancer & joint pains: sample healing testimonies of chronic diseases

  A homeopathic physician from India reports 3 cancer cases, two of which concern a “schirrus type of carcinoma of the uterus” (confirmed by biopsy report). Within two months of oil pulling, the bleeding was reduced, their general condition improved and both uterus carcinoma patients feel confident that their disease will be vanquished. “You know confidence/faith contributes to cure more than medicine.”
Compare Healing Cancer & Your Mind.
The third case involves a woman who developed a malignant tumor larger than a tennis ball on her jawbone (this patient is also on homeopathic medicines). After a month of oil pulling, pus was discharged from a hole that formed in the tumor on the jawbone. Three weeks later, the flow of pus stopped, the hole closed and the tumor reduced in size to be almost undetectable. “In these cases, my medicines must have given temporary relief. I am hoping they will totally heal.” The same physician adds this observation: “In case of joint pains the improvement that would have resulted in eight months with my medicines, have come within two months of oil pulling.”

* Diabetes - Pregnancy - Childbirth
  My age is 41 years. I am a diabetic patient with no children. After doing oil pulling for three months, I became pregnant. At the time of pregnancy, my blood sugar increased.
  I stopped [oil pulling] for about a month thinking it was aggravating my problem. Having come to know that aggravation is a sign of cure, I started [oil pulling] again. The sugar level came down and I continued [oil pulling] throughout my pregnancy. After a caesarian operation, I gave birth to a baby. The doctors checked for sugar, both for the baby and me. We both were free from sugar. The wound healed well and stitches removed on the seventh day. Doctor was astonished at this. I found OP benefited me in the following ways:

Grape Nuts may carry that crunchy, earthy image—and food industry giant Post did form the "Post Natural Advantage Line," which includes Grape Nuts, Shredded Wheat, and Raisin Bran—but the ingredients used in these cereals are grown with chemical pesticides.
"They are 'natural' only in the sense that they do not appear to contain artificial preservatives," explains Vallaeys. "But the ingredients are conventional ingredients, from crops grown on conventional farms which can use toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, genetically engineered crops, and a whole host of other inputs that are strictly prohibited on farms growing crops for organic cereal."
